Orono U13-3 brings home Gold from Kingston
The 13U Team 3 Leafs were in Kingston to start their March Break. Their first game, on Friday morning, was against a Montreal area club, the Cote Saint-Luc Canucks. A strong skating club, the Canucks netted a pair of goals, dropping the Leafs 2-0.
Saturday saw them take on the Renfrew Timberwolves. Orono managed a 2-1 win with Cameron Alphonso scoring the winner. The Kingston Salvation Army was their next opponent on Saturday, and the boys banged in four goals to out skate Kingston 4-1. Parker Merriam with the winning goal.
Through the great play of goalie Tucker McRoberts, the Leafs won the tie break on goals against, giving them the wild card spot, and a shot at redemption, taking on the Canucks in the semi final Sunday morning. The boys fought back from a 1-0 deficit, to take the close game 2-1, earning a berth in the A Final. Again, Merriam netted the winning marker.
With the Metcalfe Jets winning the other semi, the Championship game was set for 5:00. Orono came out prepared and determined in the final. A pass from Leighton Hunking to d-man Blake Hill created the first Orono goal, when Hill’s shot hit a screen of legs in front and found the back of the net. A few minutes later, another Hill point shot was tipped by Logan Paxton, giving Orono a two-goal cushion. A strong defensive effort in the third preserved the 2-0 Orono victory.
A well-deserved congratulations to the Leafs team!!
