The Orono Amateur Athletic Association is proud to introduce our coaching roster for the 2025–26 Representative season. These dedicated leaders bring a wealth of experience, community spirit, and a passion for developing young athletes both on and off the ice.
MD 8 – Coach Dan Sharpe
With over 15 years of coaching experience, Coach Dan brings energy, passion, and a proven ability to develop young hockey players both on and off the ice. Known for his positive attitude and deep understanding of the game, he focuses on skill development, teamwork, and a strong work ethic—creating a fun, structured and rewarding environment for players of all ages and levels.
Dan’s personalized approach helps athletes grow in confidence by identifying individual strengths and areas for improvement. Beyond technical skills, he emphasizes character, sportsmanship, and resilience, aiming to shape not only better players but better people. Whether your child is new to hockey or chasing the next level, Dan is dedicated to supporting their journey every step of the way.
MD 9 – Coach Kyle Balson
Coach Kyle is a lifelong resident of Orono, where he lives with his wife and two sons. A proud product of the local hockey system, he played from Mites all the way through to Juvenile. For the past four years, Kyle has been actively involved in coaching his sons, gaining hands-on experience while sharing his passion for the game. He’s excited to help young players grow their skills in a fun, supportive environment that fosters learning, teamwork and a lifelong love of hockey.
U11 B – Coach Brock Bodashefsky
After a rewarding season coaching both House League and U10 Select, Coach Brock is entering his third consecutive year behind the bench in Orono. He’s proud to have helped build a strong foundation within the local hockey community and is excited to carry that momentum into the upcoming season with a new group of players.
Brock’s coaching philosophy focuses on skill development, fair ice time and creating a team culture rooted in hard work, sportsmanship and respect. He strives to help each player reach their full potential while ensuring the experience remains fun, positive, and community-driven. Every player and every shift matters—and Brock is committed to supporting his team’s growth both as athletes and as individuals. Off the ice, he’s a full-time paramedic in Durham Region, a devoted husband, and a proud father of three.
U13 B – Coach Jay Henderson
Coach Jay grew up in Bowmanville and developed his passion for the game playing minor hockey with the Clarington Toros. With years of coaching experience in both Orono and Clarington, he brings a wealth of knowledge and dedication to the rink. In addition to hockey, Jay also coaches AAA minor baseball with the Clarington Orioles, showcasing his broad commitment to youth sports. He’s thrilled to see rep hockey return to the younger age groups in Orono and is eager to help develop the next generation of players in the upcoming season.
U15 B – Coach Matthew Pearce (non-parent)
A dedicated and experienced hockey development coach, Matthew has a passion for building strong, disciplined and team-focused athletes. With a background in Junior and Senior Rep Hockey, military service and firefighting, he brings a structured, compassionate, and leadership-driven approach to coaching. His commitment to personal and team development goes beyond the ice—aiming to grow not just skilled players, but responsible young people with strong values and lifelong friendships.
