Player Code of Conduct
2025–2026 Season
As a player, I understand the importance of fair play, respect and the “spirit of the game” and that being part of a minor development/representative team is an exciting opportunity.
Here are some important things that I will remember as a player. I will…
- Play for the “fun of it”, not just to please my parents or my coaches.
- Play by the rules.
- Never argue with the officials’ decisions. I will let my coach or my captain ask any necessary questions.
- Control my temper – no “mouthing off”, no abusive language, no tantrums, no breaking sticks, no throwing gloves or other equipment.
- Work equally hard for myself and my team – my team’s performance will benefit and so will my own.
- Be a good sport. Cheer all good plays, whether for my team’s or my opponents’. Learn to lose “well” and win “well”.
- Treat all players the way I would like to be treated. I won’t interfere with, take unfair advantage, bully or intend to injure any player.
- Remember that the goals of the game are to have fun, improve my skills and feel good. Showboating or trying to have the most points or penalties isn’t the most important thing.
- Cooperate with my coaches, teammates and opponents — for without them, there isn’t a game.
- Remember that I am representing myself, my parents, my team and my community, association and sponsor at all times, including to and from the arena.
- Follow guidelines for dress code that may be set out by the coaching staff or the association.
- Not convey or distribute offensive, derogatory, libelous or defamatory comments about any other member including, but not limited to, coaches, players, parents, trainers, managers and officials, by way of electronic text, email, message boards, social media or other electronic medium which may be viewed or received by members of the public and/or a significant number of members of the Association.
Player Contract
- I will attend all practices and games. If I am unable to attend, I will contact my coach/manager ASAP.
- I will come on time, ready to give my full attention.
- I will listen and follow the direction of the coaching staff and officials.
- I will wear all my equipment as required.
- I will work as hard in practices as I do in games.
- I will respect my coaches, teammates, referees, parents, and the opponent.
- I will do my best to eat healthy foods 3 hours before game time.
- I will follow the team’s dress code for games.
- I understand playing for the OAAA is a privilege, not a right.
- I will not use a cell phone, tablet or camera in the dressing room unless approved by the team.
- I understand that my conduct on and off the ice has consequences. Poor behaviour could result in:
- Meeting with parents and coach
- Meeting with parents, coach, and executive with suspension
- Removal from the team
Disciplinary Consequences
If I do not follow the above rules, consequences may include:
- Team meeting between coaches (or Executive) and all players reviewing the Code of Conduct
- Discussion with coaching staff and player (possibly including parents)
- Loss of ice-time during a game and/or practice
- Removal from practices, games, and team events
- Temporary suspension from team activities
- Permanent removal from the team
- Required review/meeting before registration next season
I understand that failure to sign the PLAYER CODE OF CONDUCT will result in not being able to play OAAA minor development/representative hockey.
