OMHA Announces 2020-21 Coach Qualifications

The OMHA has released the 2020-21 coaching requirements.  Any questions about qualifications can be directed to our OMHA Rep Mark Foster at [email protected] 

OMHA 2020-21 Coach Qualifications

If you are interested in coaching (and we need a lot of coaches this season), please submit an application under the Coach's Corner tab of our website.

TEAM OFFICIAL QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS 2020-2021

• All qualifications listed are the MINIMUM REQUIREMENT
• All Team Officials (Coach, Trainer & Manager) require Respect in Sport (RiS) - Activity Leader or Speak Out!
• All Team Officials (Coach, Trainer & Manager) require Gender Identity & Expression Course
• New for 2020-2021 - All Team Officials (Coach, Trainer & Manager) require Hockey University – Planning a Safe Return to Hockey
• All qualifications must be registered with the OMHA


NEW COACHES - COACHING QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS FOR 2020-2021:

In order to be qualified as Coach 1 – Intro to Coach for the 2020-2021 season, a new coach must complete:
 Hockey University: ONLINE Coach 1/Coach 2
 Hockey University: Planning a Safe Return to Hockey (new)
 Respect in Sport – Activity Leader
 Gender Identity & Expression Course
 Rowan’s Law Resource Review & Acknowledgement

In order to be qualified as Coach 2 – Coach Level for the 2020-2021 season, a new coach must complete:
 Hockey University: ONLINE Coach 1/Coach 2
 Hockey University: Checking
 Hockey University: Planning a Safe Return to Hockey (new)
 Respect in Sport – Activity Leader
 Gender Identity & Expression Course
 Rowan’s Law Resource Review & Acknowledgement

ADDITIONAL NOTES:

1) If a coach currently holds a Coach 2-Coach Level “Trained” qualification that is expiring, their options are:

a. Complete the Trained to Certified process to be eligible for the 2020-2021 season, this process includes: • Coach 2-Coach Level Workbook • Making Ethical Decisions – Online Evaluation module • Submit Coach 2-Coach Level Workbook to their Local MHA for approval

b. The expiring Coach 2 ‘Trained’ Coach who elects not to complete this process will be required to complete the requirements outlined for Coach 2 ‘New Coaches’ above in order to be eligible for the coming season

2) If a coach currently holds a Development 1 “Trained” qualification that is expiring, their options are:

a. Complete the following to be considered “in process” for the 2020-2021 season:
• Development 1 – Post Task Workbook
• Making Ethical Decisions – Online Evaluation module
• Submit Development 1 Request for Evaluation form to their Local MHA

b. The expiring D1 ‘Trained’ Coach who elects not to complete this process will be required to complete the requirements outlined for Coach 2 ‘New Coaches’ above in order to be eligible for the coming season.
