Hockey Update!
With the ice almost ready at our arena, The OAAA is happy to pass on more information about what the hockey season will look like.

PLEASE NOTE: we are still in need of Head Coaches and Trainers for all divisions!  Remember we cannot put a team on the ice without those positions filled.

Here are our most recent updates:

Our registration is closed although we still have room in some divisions - contact us at [email protected] if you are still looking to register a player.

We will soon be asking all our players to confirm their intentions to play and also be collecting the first installment of registration fees.  Watch your email, the website and our social media feeds for this!

As for the format of hockey this season, The OAAA has confirmed that we will partner with the Newcastle Stars and the Durham Crusaders in some of our divisions.  This means there will be away games for teams who have Newcastle or Durham in their bubbles.  More details about bubble makeup will be released soon.

A previously announced, bubbles will consist of a maximum 5 teams with each team having 9 players and 1 goalie per team.  Younger divisions who do not have set goalies such as U7 Initiation, U8 Minor Novice and U9 Major Novice will have 10 players per team and may rotate kids through goal.  Teams will only be allowed to play and practice with teams within their bubbles. Game format will be 4 on 4 with a 5 minute warm up, two 22 minute periods including a 1 minute break between periods.  There is an option to play 3 on 3 if there are not enough players to play 4 on 4 at a game.

There will be no evaluation skates this season due to Covid.  As a result, the teams will be divided by a 'paper' draft by the Hockey Committee members.  Requests for players to be on the same teams will not be considered (friends, rides etc.) as it is just not feasible this season.  Teams will be divided as evenly as possible based on players previous evaluations by their coaches.

We are currently waiting for the approval of our Return to Hockey Framework by the OMHA.  Once that is approved, we will qualify for our OMHA insurance and can get on the ice!  We hope this will happen ASAP!

Arena protocols will be announced and communicated to all once they are finalized.

** NOTE ** Although we believe the above will stay in place until at least January, it may change at any time especially if the OHF moves into Stage 4 of their Return to Play plan.
